About the Wire Fox Terrier

About the Wire Fox Terrier

Our first Wire Fox Terrier was a well bred Wire from the kennels of Mr Jack Fuller who bred Wires in Canada for 45 years.  Her registered name was Foxbank Coquette and we called her Terry.  She lived with us for many years and let us know she was tops.  She loved to go walking in the woods and when the pups came they went along too.  It was a nice to see all these Wire Fox Terriers investigating everything and chasing anything that moved. They all enjoyed going to the store with our children, marching along beside them with their leads on and having a great time.  We eventually brought into our kennels English, American and Canadian lines and bred two varieties for Color (the Ginger and the Tri Color) Our Kennel Name is due to the fact we are on a hill. Dogs love to look into the valley and enjoy watching the horses in their paddocks and people coming and going to the barn.

Our dogs are not confined but have a couple of acres fenced, to run and play. They live in the kennel but come into the house in the evening and sit and enjoy. Our puppies are all raised in the house where the sounds of the TV and Music, conversation make them ready to go into  new homes at about 8 weeks of age after their visit to the vet.

The Wire Fox Terrier has a harsh outer coat and soft  undercoat.  This is called a Broken Coat. The coat is stripped for show but is usually clipped for a pet home once or twice a year  The Wire should be combed and brushed at least once a week.  He is an active dog and loves a good game, fetching a ball and most like to swim.  They should have a fenced back yard to run and play.  Loves to be with his family.  He is very smart and when he has learned something usually does not forget.  He makes a an excellent pet but also excels in the show ring.  He should always be on the tiptoe of expectation.
