Roddy was born in England and was registered by Mr. H. Lambert of the Jenmist Kennels who later sold him as a show prospect to Stafford Somerfield. At the tenderage of six months, Roddy went Best in Show quickly followed by three open Bests in Show.  Roddy's career had started and he was destined to become one of the Best Sealys of his time.  Joe Cartledge said that along with other outstanding Sealyhams the young fellow was in there pitching like they were in the days of Mrs. Cora Charters, Mrs Betty Bowler and Arthur Wade.  Somerfields Roderick of Jenmist finished the year in England Top Terrier nd 2nd Top Dog All Breeds. A change was to come into Roddy's Life.  While on a trip to England George Ward saw him and persuaded Stafford Somerfield to let him go to America. "Roddy"  was to become an emigrant terrier.  He left his home, Stafford Somerfield (his handler) John Oulton and went to the U.S. handled by George Ward for Michael and Mrs. Florence Weissman of N.Y.

"Roddy" won three Bests in Show on his way to his American Title.  After a brief absence from the show ring "Roddy" came back as a Special to win many Bests in Show. At that time we sent our Ch. Polrose Polyanthus to be bred to "Roddy"and in due time there were five beautiful pups two of whom we kept & later became Champions. "Roddy" is also the sire of Eng. Ch. such a Surprise of Sealaw, who is one of England's Top Terriers. "Roddy's" background is also excellent, as he is sired by the Norwegian Champion Jenmist Julian ex Manorbier Melody Maiden.  Consequently, Lou and I realized the potential in this Terrier.

About a year later we were absolutelly delighted to be able to acquire this lovely Sealy and bring him to Canada, so once again "Roddy" became an emigrant Terrier.  After been shown in Canada sparingly he was retired to stud at Wirehill.  We were proud to own such a great dog of whom one judge wrote."
